Japanese Translation/Grammar Question?

Okay, so I'm using Rosetta Stone to learn Japanese, and the grammar structure of one sentence is confusing me. The sentence is "goshujin wa okusan ni kisushite imasu". I understand that it means "the husband is kissing the wife". My question is, why does this sentence not read "goshujin wa okusan wo kisute imasu"? In the past I have always used "-te imasu", not "-shite imasu" to conjugate present tense verbs. Also, I thought the particle for the object of a sentence was "wo" or "o" (I suppose I"m also unclear on the difference between these two particles, I would like that clarified also.)
